For some of our readers that follow our personal accounts, you might be more aware that this perspective was sparked by our most recent visit to our home state of Indiana. Long story short, our flight was canceled and delayed us returning home to Austin by 24 hours. Although we were upset and knew it would cause a lot of conflict with our work schedules, we managed to make that extra day a positive one by spending time with some friends and enjoying our hometown a little more. Like so many other issues that arise when you're on vacation, how you respond to it can make or break that trip.

"Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world." -Gustave Flaubert
Naturally, it seems odd to think those two words go together. Traveling on a whim? Is that even feasible? Maybe a spontaneous day trip or a weekend away makes more sense. It's also probably easier to pick a destination you've always dreamed of visiting and then picking a date in the future to make it happen. Spontaneous travel isn't for everyone but for us, it's one of the most exciting ways to "plan" a trip and it can be cheaper than you think... We like the idea of letting the chips fall where they may and saying "Yes, let's do that this year!"
Together, we've only been to three countries that didn't speak English so we certainly haven't experienced a lot of different cultures, but we have encountered language barriers. And with Asia and Europe on our list, more barriers will come but we've learned through trial and error of what works... Well, most of the time.
There was an article that popped up on Facebook that discussed how traveling can lead to being more successful. Really, more successful? Maybe more enriched, certainly! Exposed to new things that we might not see here in the US, definitely. But successful... I wasn't quite sure. So I read the article and started to see a correlation that if harnessed and molded correctly, traveling could play a large part in how we relate and interact with everything around us.
