An hour on the bullet train will take you to the southern port city of Osaka. With exciting nightlife, a riverwalk, and lots of incredible street food, Osaka has something for everyone. Even though it was supposed to rain, we did not want to miss a visit there so we grabbed our jackets and prepped for a day of stuffing our faces.

A twenty minute metro ride north to Arashiyama will land you in a beautiful town surrounded by mountains, the Ōi river, and their most famous site, the Bamboo Forest.With over two thousand, yes, 2,000, Buddhist temples and shrines in Kyoto, it’s impossible to see all of them in a week. We did a bit of research and compiled a list of our favorites to explore while we were there. We had planned to see 8 but managed to stumble into a total of 11 temples/shrines during our week stay.Edo period’s national capital, Kyoto, has the old world charm everyone longs to experience when they venture to Japan. We spent a week there exploring its beautiful alleyways, shrines and neighborhoods. Kyoto completely captivated us during our stay! Here are some of our favorite spots around the city.After a week in Tokyo, we jumped on the Shinkansen (Japan’s bullet train) and headed south for our overnight stay in Hakone. |
