Chase and I talked about how we would present the first travel perspective and we both agreed I should share my thoughts on what Chase called catching "The Travel Bug". It all started when we took our first trip together to the Caribbean. Before our honeymoon, I had never been outside the U.S. Besides a couple trips to Mississippi and North Carolina to spend time with family, I had only spent time in the Midwest. Growing up, we never took big family vacations, I've never been to Disney World or even Florida. Not once have I experienced the West coast and with one spring break exception to NYC with my family, I never really got to travel while growing up. Now, I can't go on without saying that despite my limited traveling experiences, my childhood was beyond amazing. One major reason we never went on family vacations was because my parents owned a boat and our summers were filled with camping trips and hours on the lake enjoying skiing and tubing. We might not have traveled abroad, but my parents still made sure every year was filled with adventure, even if it was just 30 miles from home.
Chase on the other hand always took family vacations. His family adored the Cayman Islands and would spend many Spring Breaks down in the Caribbean as well as Mexico and on occasion Florida's gulf coast. For him, visiting the Caribbean during our honeymoon was familiar and comfortable. I, on the other hand, couldn't get over the colors, the culture, the feeling of salt-water on my face. It was all new and completely wonderful to me! While we were still in Turks, I remember asking Chase "Where should we go next?". I had come down with a serious case of the Travel Bug and I didn't want our honeymoon to be the one and only trip we would take. I wanted to make that feeling of experiencing and exploring last. It was not something I could settle on. Luckily for me, Chase had the same ambitions I did. We decided no matter what life threw us, we'd try to travel every year. Even if it was a weekend trip to a neighboring state, we knew we wanted to keep seeking unexplored territory. With our move from Indiana to Austin in 2011, we took advantage of visiting other cities in Texas as well as our closeness to Louisiana, New Mexico, and Nevada...well, it's closer now than when we were Indiana ;) Rio de Janeiro, Argentina, the Caribbean, and Iceland have also welcomed us and shown us how enriching travel can be. With every trip, whether domestic or international, we've tried new food, met new people, and continue to take advantage of seeing the wonders that cover our planet. It's one of our biggest passions and we can't wait to see where we are led next. We also want to thank you for following along with us so far. We hope you continue to join us week to week and maybe be inspired to explore for yourself! Until next time, C + D
