With so many world wonders, both natural and man-made, shrinking, sinking, and going extinct, right now is the time to go explore all those places you've been dying to see.We truly believe that the reason you are here, following along with us, is because you have a passion for travel. Whether you're an avid traveler or just plan to travel when you have the time, you are here to get ideas, information, and inspiration. Thank you all for being here! We are always blown away by the amount of visitors we have week to week. With that being said, we hope you heed the following words with consideration. If you've been itching to go explore a part of the world you haven't visited yet, GO! Seriously, go! Ok, if that's not persuasive enough, maybe the three reasons, listed below, will help. 1. Some of those MUST-SEE attractions are in danger of disappearing Whether you believe that climate change is being caused by man or is a natural cycle of the Earth, sea levels are rising. And with that, comes many coastal attractions that will disappear in the coming years. Things like the Sydney Opera House, the Statue of Liberty, the Tower of London, the city of Venice, Italy. Besides the sea levels, other wonders are being threatened like the Taj Mahal, which is sinking because of its foundation, Machu Picchu, which is beginning to erode, and many glaciers including those inside Glacier National Park. Scientists are saying the glaciers inside the main basin could be gone by 2030. I know! If you planned to visit Montana's park during your RV trip after retirement, you might not see much! The list really could go on and on. The Great Barrier Reef, the Galápagos Islands... the country of Maldives is purchasing land for their residents to relocate in the future. If there's something you've been wanting to see, google it and see if there's any research suggesting you should go sooner than later. 2. Reality is, we're not getting any younger Something we've realized over the years, is that plane travel gets worse as you get older. When we were 25 & 26, we went to South America. The flight was 11 hours and besides some terrible seat buddy assignments, we bounced off the plane and needed little time to recover. Just 4 years later, the same couldn't be said for our 8 hour flight to Europe. Now the biggest difference between these trips: Brazil was only 3 hours ahead of central time in the States while France is 7 hours ahead. Jet leg played a big role in recovery but we felt like we needed more naps, more breaks in our day, and longer time to sleep over night when we were in Europe. We've made it our mission to visit the far away places as soon as we can because extensive plane rides are not fun for anyone, especially the older you get. 3. There's so much to learn from traveling "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the Earth all of one's lifetime." -Mark Twain That incredibly blunt quote from Mark Twain is a brilliant representation to the importance, at least for us, of traveling. If there's one thing we could say about our travels, it's that we've learned so much about ourselves and the world around us. OH, and the best part, you don't have to go far to experience this! In fact, you don't even need a passport in order to understand that the way you grew up might be completely different from how someone in a different part of your own country was raised. The last sentence of Twain's quote, the one that mentions staying in your tiny bubble on Earth for your whole life will only led to small, naive thinking, is the reason we all need to explore, learn, and grow from others. Have we convinced you yet? It's safe to say there will always be an excuse for staying close to home. It could be fear of the unknown, job security, not the right time, maybe when flights are less expensive. Yada Yada Yada! We understand, life gets crazy! But I think Mr. Ferris Bueller said it best, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
Until Next Time, C + D
