We were so excited when Quinn, Chase's brother who is overseas right now, told us we would have the opportunity in 2016 to fly to Asia and adventure together! One thing we love almost as mush as traveling is planning our trips, so we start going through old inspirations to put together a tentative itinerary. We decided that seeing the southeast stretch of Asia, from Vietnam to Thailand, would work best for all of us! If you've been following along with us, we showcased Vietnam in an earlier travel inspro. Check it out here 👇🏻 Once we planned to try and make Southeast Asia happen, we decided we couldn't miss out on Thailand. Quinn had the same sentiments and many of his colleagues said Thailand was incredible, so we knew we couldn't skip this beautiful country. Also, when we were in South America, it nearly killed Chase to be so close to an ancient wonder of the world in Machu Picchu and not see it. I don't think he was going to allow that to happen again. The following is our rough itinerary of everything we hope to see and experience next summer in Southeast Asia. If you've visited, please let us know your favorites! Thailand: We plan on starting the trip in Bangkok, it's the largest city in Thailand and closest to the ocean, so if we want we can do some island hopping. Some must see things are the Grand Palace, the Wat Po Temple that houses the largest Reclining Buddha, the massive flower market, and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Bangkok is a mix of historic architecture with European influence. There are ancient temples spread all over the capital city so we plan to spend at least 3 days there. Doing some research on island hopping, we found that Ko Samui, Ko Phangan and Ko Tao are the best options for the summer months. Ko Phi Phi (Maya Bay) is the most expensive and touristy thanks to the filming of young Leo DiCaprio's movie, The Beach, but also one of the most scenic! Many say flying to Phuket and then hopping around is the cheaper and easier option but there are flight options from Bangkok. Cambodia: Many people traveling to Cambodia tend to settle on Siem Reap because of its proximity to Angkor Wat. If you are unfamiliar with Angkor Wat, it's one of the ancient wonders of the world built by Khmer Kings during the height of their empire. When Chase found some escorted trips with a stop at the Angkor Wat (and Angkor Thom), he decided it had to be a part of the trip! Some other popular things to do in Siem Reap is to attend a traditional Apsara dance show, visit Ta Prohm, and explore the riverfront boutiques and art galleries for some quality souvenirs. Vietnam: We have done a much more informative post on Vietnam (link above) so feel free to check that out, but we will just reiterate the highlights that we can't wait to experience there. In Ho Chi Minh we're excited to see all the French inspired architecture like the Notre Dame Cathedral and exploring the port city of Da Nang; going to Hue to see the imperial city and it wouldn't be a complete trip to Vietnam without spending some time in the newest wonder of the world, Halong Bay. We're convinced that if the photos can be that beautiful, seeing it in person will be absolutely unreal. We are so pumped to start booking and planning this trip and of course have Quinn along for the ride! Again, if you've visited Southeast Asia and we missed something that we have to see or try, comment below!
Until Next Time, C+ D
