We've all used Pinterest and Tripadvisor to find some great restaurants, shopping, neighborhood bars, etc. but one source I've been using for travel destination and inspiration is Instagram. In between pictures from my friends, some furry animals and favorite celebrities, my Instragram feed is littered with food bloggers, wanderlusters, and travelers from all over that share their favorite spots around the world. It started out with following local Austinites for the here and now spots around town and then I thought to myself, "maybe there are some rad accounts for other cities too." And boom, the future of my Instagram feed was forever changed. The first trip I did this for was Iceland. I started following a few travel accounts specific to Iceland and they ended up being amazing guide "books" with locations, photos, and reviews. Then I tried it with Portland and was not disappointed! The process is pretty simple, I use hashtags for certain hot spot words - for example in Portland, I used #AlbertaStreet or #pdx - and after scrolling for a bit, I click on anything that intrigues me. Whether it's an outdoor patio that looks fun or food that I would want to try, if it appeals to me, I'll investigate and usually start following the account to see if more interesting things present itself. I try to follow a major account, for instance, Travel Portland because they'll post more tourist based stuff - things visitors should hit up when they're there. In addition to a visitor's guide account, I always try to follow a couple local bloggers or socialites that can clue me into the cool happenings of the city. So with that said, if you are looking to get inspired and explore some gorgeous places via Instragram, here is my list of favorite travel accounts to follow for some quick day dreaming... And hopefully future planning! Pretty City London:This account is based off users hashtags to #prettycitylondon. If the curators like the picture, they repost it and credit the personal account that shared it to them. Their feed is the epitome of classic London, with sources from neighborhood flower shops and hat boutiques, row houses throughout Notting Hill and Kensington, and the tourist stuff like Parliament and Big Ben. Day dream central! Beautiful Destinations:Similar to Pretty City London, Beautiful Destinations uses photos sourced to them through their #beautifuldestinations tag. They have a team of travelers that explore for the company so if the photo isn't sourced to anyone, it was probably one of their employees who took the shot. Beautiful Destinations also has several other accounts such as Beautiful Hotels, Beautiful Cuisines, etc. that get a little more specific. They are 5 million followers strong and boast some great inspiration! Paris In Four Months:@parisinfourmonths is a one person account managed by Carin Olsson. Her feed is slightly different than the previous ones in that she is a photographer and specializes in fashion. So during fashion weeks, her feed includes runways, clothing, accessories, etc. but she has an amazing eye for showcasing her city of Paris and all things beautiful! She does a fabulous job sourcing the places she visits so it's easy to map out locations. If you're into back alley Paris with a mix of high-end fashion, check her out. Gal Meets Glam:Kind of on the same page of Paris In Four Months, Gal Meets Glam is managed by one person, Julia Engel, a fashion blogger based out of San Francisco. Julia's primary use of Instagram is for her fashion blog, Gal Meets Glam, but the woman and her husband are mad travelers! Last year, they went somewhere new every month (if not twice in a month) and did an epic European vacation for something like 5 weeks... Their travel budget must be insane but they always find the coolest hangouts and viewpoints! Mixed between food scenes around SF and her fashion, her account has some fascinating places to explore. Local Wanderer:These two chicks are loading up their account with some serious eye candy! The story goes that Elaine and Taylor were looking for a blog that housed personal, human recommendations for great spots to visit within a city and everything continued to came up short... So they decided to start their own blog! They travel and create guides/directories for cities they find interesting. They have amazing taste, use gorgeous images to show off those cities, and seem to have a ton of fun with their new career choice! Major inspo! The WanderBaums:hehe! See what I did there? But seriously, we are passionate about what we post on our Instagram account and we hope this blog is a source of inspiration to try new things, explore more, and have fun doing it! Until Next Time,
