There's nothing like that cool, crisp feeling of Autumn in the air. Traveling during the early fall months is always a favorite for us and we've gathered a list of some of the best cities to visit between October and November.Fall officially started last week, welcoming all the excitement this season has to offer like the changing of the leaves, street fairs, festivals and cooler temps. It's also our go-to season for traveling because airfare tends to be cheaper and places are less crowded. Below is our list of must see cities in the fall based on events in town, site-seeing, and of course the foliage change! BostonI'm not sure there is a better area in the United States to experience all that Autumn has to offer than Boston and the New England states. The coldness is setting in, the leaves are changing to the brightest hues of red, orange and yellow, and the events unfolding are ideal for October. Almost every weekend in the month of October is littered with beer and Oktober festivals in Boston and the surrounding towns. There are apple and cranberry festivals, haunted farms and corn mazes. And for all the Halloween lovers out there, a haunted house in Salem, Mass. is the epitome of Halloween in America. If you'd prefer to visit in November, it has to be during Thanksgiving. Celebrating the first American feast in Plymouth (40 miles from Beantown) is a weekend long event with parades, food festivals, reenactments and concerts... Pure Americana. Park City, UtahDefinitely known for their winter skiing, Park City is a small town about 30 miles from Salt Lake City. Surrounded by mountains in all directions, Park City has the traditional ski town feel with Main St. housing all the food, shops, and hotels. Although Park City is small (just under 8,000 people live there), they have an extremely diverse food scene and pride themselves of their hike and bike trails during the warmer months. The fall foliage tends to be the best in mid-October so if you get the chance to visit, make sure and take the Rail Trail along the open basin to see the mountain views and all the colors of fall. End your day at the High West Distillery and Saloon for some samplings of their house-made vodkas and whiskeys. MichiganBasically ANY city in Michigan is a good place to see the fall foliage. During late September through the entire month of October, Michigan has you covered for breathtaking scenery. Depending on what you want to do will determine exactly where you should go. Mackinac Island and the Upper Peninsula are huge tourists spots for beautiful cliffside views with Lake Michigan in the background. Traverse City was named one of the top ten cities to visit in the fall because of their foliage, extended summer temps, and a plethora of wineries to explore. If you are fortunate enough to access a car, many would recommend the drive along M-119 which winds along Lake Michigan in the northwest region of the state. M-119 is nicknamed the tunnel of trees and worth the drive or maybe even a bike ride. The Pacific NorthwestJust returning from Oregon, we can tell you first hand this region of the country would be phenomenal to see in the fall. The city of Portland is built on a hillside with giant trees all around it. Visiting Washington Park and seeing the city down below is one of the best vantage points for getting a peak at Mt. Hood. Just a short 45 minutes from Portland is the Columbia River Gorge that is a must see regardless of the season but experiencing it in October or November would add to its beauty. Seattle is the largest city in the PNW so not only would you have the city's events like Oktober and beer fests, Halloween walks, and haunted houses but also the coolness of fall temperatures with the beautiful changing leaves with Mt. Rainier in the background. Vancouver, CanadaConsider this a bonus to the list since it's not U.S. territory. We have been drooling over all the amazement of Canada and cannot wait to explore one of these days. Vancouver boasts incredible scenery in the fall. If you are warm blooded, you might want to hit up the city in October before it cools off for its frigid winter. During the fall, Vancouver is still hosting exciting events with less crowds and reasonably priced hotel rates. The international film fest takes place in September and October, they boast a huge Oktoberfest stretching 17 days with authentic Bavarian music and food along with parades and concerts all over the city. And lastly the Halloween festivities do not lack here in Vancouver. They have all sorts of haunted houses and a haunted trolley tour with hop on and off stops in spooky places like a morgue and cemetery. Hopefully, this list will spark your excitement for the upcoming season of pumpkins, costumes, and food for the soul.
