Continuing our trip through Spain, our next stop after Madrid landed us on the island of Mallorca. We split our time between the northern mountains and the eastern coast. First up, the mountains! We landed in Palma, shuttled to the rental offices and after receiving our cute-as-a-button Fiat, we hit the highway for the northern port of Alcúdia. A few months before arriving, we discovered Bistró del Jardin and learned it was on the Michelin guide. We decided it would be our first lunch on the island and it did not disappoint. The location was beautiful, the waitstaff was absolutely wonderful and the food was delectable. If you find yourself in the northern part of Mallorca, check this place out. After lunch, we drove over to explore the medieval section of Alcúdia. We saw the ancient city gate and we walked atop the wall where you could look at the town below. This was the place where we fell in love with the green shutters and plant-lined alleyways, We soon discovered this was quintessential Mallorca. We left the northern port and made our way down the western mountain region. Sóller was the next town we planned to visit. They were hosting the Fira Festival that weekend which explained the large crowds in the city square. We weren't looking for food or drink so we explored the alleys, walked around the church, watched the trolley come through the city center and then headed back to the car to drive to our hotel. Deiá was our final stop... for the first day! We spent the next two days exploring Deiá and a few neighboring areas like Mansion Son Marroig, Cala de Deiá and Valldemossa. But those pictures and stories will have to wait for our next post.
Until Next Time, C+D
