With 10 days in Paris, we knew we'd have to research and find some great places for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Here are our highlights! We are breakfast people so it's no surprise that most of our favorite places around Paris were cafés and brunch spots! Here are a few we'd visit again. We joked that the whole reason we went to Paris was so I could have brunch at Ladurée. It's not entirely false, considering we did just that but luckily Paris had so much more to offer, besides amazing macarons and café Viennois, that we found some other things to do while we were there! So no, we didn’t go solely for Ladurée although it’s worth a visit! Ladurée is simply adorable. The building was dripping with history and the decor seemed to have been designed with elegance in mind. We had brunch in the front room which had large windows looking out onto Champs-Elysées. We ordered more than our little table could handle but our waiter helped us reduce the amount of unnecessary plates (everything came on an individual plate with a monogramed napkin or flag on it) so we could get by. The picture above featuring a cup of coffee and cream is a café Viennois. It’s black coffee with a cup full of Chantilly cream used for sweetening... ridiculous! I think we ordered one at every traditional french café we visited! I'm not going to lie to you, we visited two other Laudrées, as well as a Pierre Hermé during the 10 days we were in Paris... YIKES! Café de Flore is a Parisian institution. It's kind of a must stop for anyone who enjoys breakfast, coffee, or French café history. It was a similar ordering experience to that of Laudrée, the food was fine but the atmosphere seemed to be the reason so many people continue to visit. More American than French, Eggs&Co. was a TINY brunch spot that had the kitchen on the first floor and maybe 20 tables in their second story... I'd call it a half story since the floor to ceiling ratio was maybe 6 feet! Not built for the German genes Chase was graced with. However, Chase's French and charm got us a table and service faster than the Americans next to us, who spoke only English and refused to try French. Also, the food was bomb! If you visit, give them the most french you have and the experience should be a good one! This is a good rule of thumb for all of Paris. One of Chase's favorites was Teléscope. I found this place on one of my favorite blogger's travel page. She had recommended a lot of "Italian" or "Australian" coffee shops since that's what she's used in Brooklyn. Austin also has a lot of similar coffee bars (Australian style, if you will) so we took her recommendations seriously. This place was incredible, it had maybe 8 tables inside and the coffee bar was majority of the shop. We ordered traditional flat whites and an orange cake that was melt-in-your-mouth amazing. Our last coffee shop for the list was in Montmartre. Cuillier was substantially larger but still the coffee bar took up most of the square footage. We ordered macchiatos, a couple croissants, and a pistachio cake that we devoured from our window seats. All great! If you plan to do a day trip up to Montmartre, check this place out. It was on an adorable street, great for people watching. OH, before I move onto lunch and dinner, I wanted to mention one more place we stopped at for brunch. If you're in the 7th Arrondissement and let's face it you will be (hello, Eiffel Tower), check out Coutume Café. This place was incredible! We didn't take any pictures because it was insanely crowded and we didn't want to look like touristy millennials! But the pancakes were so fluffy! They also did Australian style cappuccinos. Once we got back into the city from Versailles (which happened to be Christmas Eve), a lot of places were starting to close. We tried to grab lunch at Ralph's but they were closing as we walked up so we wondered down Saint-Germain-des-prés. Not even a block down, Chase recognized Café Louise. He had read it was a good alternative to Cafe de Flore (which you can see in the background of that previous picture). We grabbed a table outside, under the heaters and ordered some lunch/dinner. I unknowingly ordered their most famous dish, a Croque Madame with frites and it was perfect! Hugo was another place we dined at but didn’t take any pictures. If you’ve been to Paris, you know that the tables are just inches apart and most booth seating requires pulling the whole table out to allow the person to get through to sit. Because of that, we tried to avoid intruding on neighboring dinners and just enjoyed the experience sans iPhones. Hugo was charming, fresh and cozy. Their menu had English and French on it and the wait staff was very accommodating to us. Would highly recommend Ubering there and enjoying a bottle of wine. I stumbled upon this place, Fish la Boissonnerie from another travel blogger I follow. She actually has an app dedicated to food she loves from all over the world. Really solid recommendations! We took a chance on this place and Chase got us reservations. It ended up being our favorite dinner of the whole trip. Waiters kept running across the street to the boulangerie to refill the restaurant's bread supply. It was the first time I truly enjoyed beets and everything we tasted here was incredible! This place was all French though! No English menus or speakers... Favorite Snacks: We already mentioned Ladurée and Pierre Hermé for macarons and pastries. Because we were there in winter, we got Angelina hot chocolates... So rich but so good! The boulangerie I mentioned back on our Christmas Day post (part deux) that was one of the best in the city, is called Le Champ des Delices. It's a block from the Eiffel Tower and everything inside was incredible! Oh, I guess there was one more coffee shop! But it was happenstance that we got it! Chase found this bakery called Stohrer which used to be the pâtisserie for the royals and wanted to find it before we left France. He walked in and ordered everything for us and when we were leaving we realized we were really close to Jardin du Palais Royal so we swung over there and saw that Café Kitsuné was open ( we tried to go a couple days before and they were closed). We ducked in for two cappuccinos, went over to the fountain and had a nice sugary afternoon snack! The best kind!
Until Next Time, C+D
