The summer of 2014 was shaping up to be the last chance for Chase's family to take a family vacation together before some big moves happened. Chase's parents settled on their favorite destination spot, the Cayman Islands. Growing up, Chase was fortunate enough to have many memories on the Cayman Islands due to his parents' time-share on Seven Mile Beach. Lots of spring breaks and summer vacas were spent on Grand Cayman partaking in snorkeling around the reefs, soaking up the sun and eating at their favorite restaurant, The Wharf. When it was decided that Grand Cayman would be our 2014 vacation spot, I was excited to explore the island I had heard so much about. Because I was the newbie, Chase's family went above and beyond to show me all their favorite spots. We explored all the trusted favorites like the downtown area of Georgetown, a tour out to Stingray City on a gorgeous catamaran, the turtle farm, and eating lots of yummy seafood around the island. The condo was equipped with a kitchen, dining room, living area and three bedrooms. We spent most days having breakfast and lunch together in the house but dinners were out around town. We ordered pizza one night, went to an All-You-Can-Eat lobster fest at Decker's, devoured some amazing tuna at the Cracked Conch, and ended the trip feeding the trapon at The Wharf. Sea life on the Cayman Islands is pretty awesome. Not only did we get to swim with stingrays, we also got to hold and pet them. AND the catamaran cruise out to the drop off only made the experience better. On a different day, we spent some time checking out the turtle farm. We saw just hatched turtles all they way up to adult Green sea and Kemp's Ridley sea turtles. They had turtle touch tanks to hold and pet year old turtles. There is also a lagoon where you can swim with the turtles but unfortunately a storm rolled in and they closed that area due to lightening. Luckily for us, Chase's parents invested in some snorkeling gear years back so when we weren't out cruising around, we spent the rest of the day swimming around the reef just a few yards away from our beach. Chase, his siblings, and I would gear up and explore the reef together. Whenever someone saw something, we'd pull each person over to check out the colorful coral and the vibrant fish snacking on it. Not only was at a super fun trip to a beautiful island, it was some quality time hanging out with our family. Photos to reflect on and laugh at, memories that we cherish and talk about constantly, and shared experiences I hope we never forget.
Until Next Time, C + D
