If you’re keeping track, this is the third time we’ve discussed Alberta! The first time was when we were merely dreaming about going (filed under Travel Inspiration), the second mention was after we actually went (filed under Categories: Canada), and now we’re comparing our winter trip to our brother’s summer trip... because no matter the season, Calgary and Banff should not be missed! Read on to see what we mean. Have you ever found yourself wondering what a place looks like during a different season? Because we travel during non-peak seasons, aka not the summer, we usually get great travel deals and miss out on the crowds. However, non-peak season goes hand in hand with tempting Mother Nature. There are definitely perks for both traveling seasons (beautiful weather vs. unbeatable airfare) but still, no harm in wondering, right? We try hard to make the most of wherever we are, no matter the season (I should mention we’ve been very fortunate with weather every time we’ve traveled, knock-on-wood) but Banff was one place we allowed ourselves to contemplate what peak season would look like. Luckily for us, Chase’s brother decided he had had enough of us blabbering on about Alberta and booked himself an August getaway. Winter vs. Summer of Bow Valley on Highway 93. Winter vs. Summer of Johnston Canyon Lower Falls Hike. Quinn asked us for our day by day itinerary and added in a couple spots he wanted to check out. He was there for a week and the whole time, he texted us photo updates. Little did we know, he was using the blog to track down the exact location of each photo so he/we could compare and contrast the seasons. Downtown Banff November ‘17 vs. August ‘18. Peyto Lake and Lake Louise. Needless to say, our dwelling on Banff in the summer was totally justified. Alberta was truly amazing in the winter. We were able to snowboard, the hot springs felt perfect in 30 degree weather, and there were no crowds. Seriously, we had Peyto Lake lookout all to ourselves! But did y’all see the crystal clear lakes? Speaking of, Moraine Lake is not accessible after September ends. Just look... Quinn took this photo on an iPhone, in the late morning, dodging a family that made better doors than windows. And it’s perfect! Luckily, our neighbors to the north are welcoming in any season. Calgary/Banff, we’re coming for you (again) one of these summers.
Until Next Time, C + D (and Q)
