After exploring Brisbane and Hamilton Island, we returned to Sydney and spent just a few more days in the city before heading back to the States. With all 6 of us together, we rented a penthouse on Cremorne Point, located on Sydney's north shore.Due to varying work schedules, our group arrived to Sydney on different days. Brisbane was the first time we were together on the same flight. Because of that, we decided we wanted to spend the second time in Sydney together, meaning sleeping under the same roof. We also wanted to visit the zoo and experience the north side of Sydney so we searched Airbnb for a north shore rental and found a great penthouse (privately owned) on top of a cute bed and breakfast just a few blocks from the ferry stop. For about $100 a person (per night) we were able to finish the remaining three days together! Considering hotel prices with opera house views, this apartment was a steal! The views of the harbor and city were incredible. After we dropped our bags in the living room, we all flooded onto the terrace and stood in silence just taking in the scene. And at night, Sydney got even better! It was very apparent that Cremorne Point and the North Shore, as a whole, is more quiet and family centered. When we took the ferry over to the south side (city side) we saw lots of men and women in suits, clearly commuting to work. It was a much different feel from the lively, younger scene on the city side but everyone seemed good with that! We were closing in on 14 days of vacation and the calm, slower paced neighborhood worked for us. We had settled into the penthouse and Cynthia had found a great food option for the evening so we walked down to the ferry and headed to the Quay to grab the subway over to Hyde park for Noodle Night! ... It was easier than that sounded! We just happened to be there during food month so every evening in October, the night noodle markets opened with roughly 50 vendors serving up street food from several regions of Asia. It was free to get in and credit card only to purchase food and drinks. Everything we tried was awesome, including my not so asian donuts. They were delightful regardless. After stuffing ourselves, we took the metro back to the ferry and headed home. The next morning we had tickets for the zoo. We decided to Über over to the Taronga Zoo. We were on the correct shore but still a distance away from the park. Walking up, we were blown away by the entrance. We knew it would be an incredible zoo and we were not disappointed. Of course, the giraffes had the best view of the city! The zoo was beautiful and well organized. One of the most surreal parts was stumbling upon the gorilla area and watching a baby gorilla crawl all over his dad, trying to wake him up to play. The female gorilla was also near the action and eventually joined in on the fun. The silverback rolled over and beat his chest before cuddling the baby again. It was a spectacular sight. Leaving the zoo, we took a metro cable to the ferry so we could head to the south shore again. Like I said, the action is on the city side but Sydney's metro system is remarkable so it was easy to get around no matter where you stayed! Travel Tip, get an opal card the second you arrive. We spent the evening over in Chinatown and ended up having our last meal at a super popular Malaysian restaurant. We got there about 20 minutes before they opened and when we left, 90 or so minutes later, the waiting line was down the block. Thank you, Cynthia for hooking us up! The food was so scrumptious. This was our (Chase and myself) first time having Malaysian and we're pretty jealous of anyone who happens to have that cuisine in their town. Austin is lacking! We spent the last night hanging at the penthouse, singing karaoke, playing Euchre and Chinese Poker (our cultures colliding!) and just being present with a group of people we only see, if we're lucky. once a year. The next morning, we grabbed breakfast from the downstairs bed and breakfast and headed to the airport. We had seats together and decided to sync up our TV screens and watch the Shallows before catnapping! We made it to LAX, gathered our luggage, hugged it out and went out separate ways (CRYING FACE EMOJI!).
Australia was a trip of a lifetime. We were unbelievably fortunate for not only finding deals left and right to make the trip affordable but we also had perfect weather, no issues with flights or lodging, and after 16 days together, I think we all still like each other! Until Next Time, C + D
