About 5 years ago, we came to the conclusion that experiences are worth the absolute most to us and we decided that if we could manage a trip over parties/gifts, we'd do it. My birthday happens to be 9 days before December 25, so when my 30th came around, we decided to skip Christmas and spend my Flirty Thirty in the city of love, Paris.Paris has been a place both Chase and I have been longing to visit. We both studied French, we both were obsessed with the culture (Chase the food, myself the fashion), and if you happen to know Chase's childhood dream job, the streets of Paris were heavily involved! We've considered multiple trips around Europe that included Paris but most itineraries only allowed 3 days in the city... we knew that wouldn't cut it. Paris would have to be a separate trip for us to take in every museum, monument, and boulangerie on both banks. We kept putting off the trip knowing it would cost more to fly solely to France but when we started discussing my 30th Birthday, it just felt right. We drew up a rough day-to-day schedule and realized we'd need a week. Hopper (a flight app. Download it before your next vacation) told us the best prices for flying would be an 8 day trip. We flew out the Tuesday before Christmas and made it to Paris around 7:30am, Wednesday morning. Our Airbnb hadn't been rented out the day before so Mary, our host, allowed us to check in early. We got our metro cards (easier said than done!) and hopped on the RER to get over to the 7th Arr. After we booked our flights, we were daydreaming on the Airbnb app and found this amazing apartment (see previous pictures and cover photo) a block from the Eiffel Tower. I was somewhat confused on how the place could still be available but I contacted Mary and within the weekend, she had approved our request and we had the place booked! We could not get over the views. Completely blown away! Good visibility is important when visiting the tower and even though our first day in France was the coldest of the trip, it was the clearest. So we bundled up, (our Indiana roots were trumped by our adjusted Texas blood as we were not prepared for 20 degrees and strong wind) and headed the block over to the tower. After security, we took the elevator to the first level viewing deck. The wind was cuttingly frigid and the wait to go to the top viewing area was the coldest we had been since our college days but the views were spectacular. Paris in winter might not be lush or exceptionally green but it still has this alluring charm. You could see for miles in every direction. For decades, there were height restrictions on buildings, which I think makes Paris that much more ascetically pleasing! The winding streets, the cream buildings with dark gray roofs were all exceptionally visible. The Eiffel Tower is so touristy but to us, it was a must. I'm glad we took the time to explore the tower and see the city of Paris from above. Although, the view from below was pretty incredible as well! We were so fortunate to be dazzled by her beauty every morning and night. On Christmas Eve, I remember sitting on Mary's couch right next to the window and at the top of every hour I watched the 30 second light show. It really was magical and a memory I hope to never forget. Because we visited Paris at Christmas time last year, we decided to wait until this holiday season to share our photos and stories! For all those who asked us about Paris and when we'd post the trip, thank you for your patience. We've got more to come in the next few weeks.
Until Next Time, C + D
