After some research, we decided our first purchase in Paris would be the museum pass. Not only does it get you into almost every museum in Paris, as well as the surrounding region, it saves you time by skipping the lines and allowing you to go straight to the entrance! When we landed at the Charles De Gaulle airport, we located the stand down in the international terminal (after customs) and got the 4 day museum pass. They also have 2 and 6 day passes. We went with 4 because you have to use the pass in consecutive days and we knew most of the museums would be closed on Christmas Day (our 5th day). Also, we wanted to leave time in the second half of the trip, post-Christmas, to explore some parks and be more open to just wandering. We were jet lagged but knew if we wanted to see our top picks, we'd just have to grab a cappuccino and go. We were able to visit 7 museums in 4 days (not including the Eiffel Tower and Espace Dalí). If you haven't caught our first post about Paris, catch up here: After we visited the Eiffel Tower, we crossed the river and spent the remainder of the day at Musée du Louvre. We were there for about 6 hours and only saw a fragment of the place. It's massive, overwhelming, and always crowded but completely worth a full day inside. The next day, after breakfast, we went to the Arc de Triomphe. It was awe-inspiring and the views from the roof platform were beautiful, despite the mist and fog. Also, I don't believe there is an elevator (could be wrong on that) but once you reach the top of the spiral staircase, make sure you look down! Day three was a triple museum day. The Musée de l'Armée housed within the Invalides were about 7 blocks from our apartment so we walked there and visited both. Napoléon's tomb is inside the Invalides so that was the main draw but the property is immaculate and would make for a lovely summer day in their garden. Our museum passes came in handy here because the ticket lines were at the opposite end of where we came in (2 long blocks from the side we were on). A lot of tourists were turned around and confused. Since we had our passes, we didn't have to worry about it and just went through security. We grabbed some hot chocolate at Angelina before heading to lunch and then onto Musée d'Orsay... Possibly our favorite place in Paris! The museum resides in an old train station and it's spectacular! Besides the beautiful space, they had a huge collection of impressionism and post-impressionist paintings, which happens to include some of our favorite artists. Their Van Gogh collection was so exciting to see in person. We heard Musée d'Orsay was awesome and it truly was. If you enjoy the late 19th and into early 20th century art movements, this is a museum you don't want to miss. Our final day with the museum pass was a trip to Châteaux de Versailles. Christmas Eve at Versailles was still very busy but the weather was clear so walking through the gardens was delightful and gave us a little break from the crowds. That same night, we spent our last bit of time with the museum pass by going to the Cathedral of Notre-Dome. We were able to attend Christmas Eve Mass and actually found seats for the service. To see the famous cathedral in person was magnificent and to hear the massive pipe organ play was the cherry on top. We highly recommend the museum pass. We ended up saving about 60 euro because we were able to budget our time and make it work for us. If you want more information regarding the pass or how we used it, feel free to connect with us!
Until Next Time, C + D
