In 2016, Our return flights from Paris got canceled and Air Canada gave us a discount voucher towards another trip with them in the future. Well, by the time November 2017 rolled around, we only had a month left to use that voucher so we decided to skip Thanksgiving and head to our neighbors to the north, Canada!Chase and I have always wanted to visit the Western side of Canada, an area filled with beautiful scenery, the Rockies and friendly residents! We did a bit of research to see what would be the best option for late November and everything led back to Alberta. We took off the weekend before Thanksgiving and spent 6 days traveling around Calgary, Canmore, Banff, and the 93 Icefield Parkway. Calgary: We had a nonstop flight from Houston and landed around 10am on Saturday morning. Calgary had received several feet of snow by the time we arrived so it was a winter wonderland and a balmy 14 degrees! We got our rental car and headed to the AirBnB we booked for two nights in downtown Calgary. After meeting our host and getting settled in, we took off for lunch and then decided to explore the city before the day faded into the night. We took a city stroll and although it was freezing out, it wasn't windy so the temperature didn't feel that low. We walked across Peace Bridge and to Prince’s Island (above), out to the Mchugh Bluff Stairs, and back to the bow building. We stopped at Monogram Coffee for a quick warm up! Calgary is beautiful! Chase and I had heard from many friends that Alberta, specifically Calgary, is Canada’s Texas! They have a rodeo, they have cowboys, they have amazing food, specifically beef! In fact, we will be doing a Foodie Edition on our dining out experiences because their food scene was too good not to do one! With that being said, after our walk, we headed back to the apartment to change and then go grab drinks and dinner! Everything we read about Alberta told us that no matter when you visit, you have to be outdoors to really appreciate it. Our first full day was entirely outside (besides eating) and it was remarkable. We would definitely go back, especially in the summer to experience the city and countryside in bloom!
Until Next Time, C + D
